Not sure how to prepare for your makeover photoshoot?

Preparing for a styled glamour photoshoot is very important but can be overwhelming. A makeover photoshoot focuses entirely on the woman, highlighting her facial and bodily features. Every aspect of the frame is intended to be flattering and eye-catching, making her feel confident and powerful. Good preparation is the key factor in producing beautiful images during your session.

If this is your first time booking a professional glamour or makeover photoshoot, here are a few tips from a portrait photographer for timeless photos capturing you in your absolute best.

Remember, these tips are here to help you think of ideas for preparing for your shoot, but are definitely not required, or even necessary for everybody. Just choose what fits in with your budget, lifestyle, and current beauty regimen, and go from there!

Go For a Manicure

The camera captures every single detail. So start with your nails and opt for a relaxing mani-pedi a day or two before your photoshoot. This will ensure that your nails look gorgeous on camera.

Putting on a dark nail colours will make your hands look prettier and super-intriguing. You could also opt for a fancier option like a beautiful French manicure. Avoid using bright or unusual nail colours as that will draw too much attention to your nails.

If you choose to do your nails at home, make sure to file them well and trim your cuticles. Nobody likes messy nails!

Prep Your Face

A glamour photoshoot enhances your facial features incredibly, amplifying the appearance of pores, acne and fine lines. A good skincare routine is the answer to make your skin glow on camera!

Here are a few steps to help prep your face before makeup application for your photoshoot.

  • Use a good face cleanser to get rid of dirt and excess oil from your skin
  • Apply a facemask that suits your skin
  • Exfoliate your skin
  • Use a toner that suits your skin type
  • Apply face serum to prep your skin
  • treat yourself to a facial around a week before your portrait session so that any possible skin irritation or peeling is gone before your photos are taken.

Avoid indulging in oily or fast food at least a few days before your photoshoot so that your skin remains clear and acne-free.

Touch-Up Your Hair

Colour

All your features will be amplified during the photoshoot. If your hair colour is fading, now would be a good time to go for a touch-up! However, make sure that you go for a touch-up a few days before the shoot so you get accustomed to it. Furthermore, we wouldn’t recommend any drastic colour changes before the shoot as you don’t know how it will turn out.

Trim or Haircut

To make sure that your hair looks great on camera, get a haircut or a trim! Not only will this make your hair look healthy but it will also transform your entire look.

Deep Condition

Soft hair will make it easier for your  hairdresser to give you a gorgeous hairdo. If you’re looking to make your hair smoother – deep-conditioning is the way to go! While paying a visit to the hair salon is a great idea, you can also apply a good hair mask at home.

Book a Hair Removal Appointment

You should be prepared for anything and everything on the day of your shoot. Getting rid of your body hair should be a priority. Pay a visit to the salon to get your arms and legs waxed.

Pick the Right Clothes

Solid Colours

Solid-coloured outfits are the way to go for a glamour photoshoot! Not only do they look great on camera, but they also amplify your gorgeous bodily features.

Avoid Patterns and Prints

Big and patterned prints should be avoided at all costs. Not only do they make you appear bulky, but they also ruin the overall look and feel of your photos.

Pay Attention to the Fitting of the Clothes

Adorn clothes that are right for your body type! You don’t want to wear outfits that are either too loose or too tight for you as they will make your body look unflattering. So, make sure that the clothes for your photoshoot fit you perfectly.
