Amberley has been a part of my series FEARLESS, showcasing women who decide their own worth and live on their own terms. She is a lovely young woman, kind and full of positive energy. Dedicated to her family to the extent she often hasn’t got a time for herself. Taking loads of photos of everyone else whilst not really having any herself. Sounds familiar? This is so true for many of us.

Amberley decided to do the photoshoot to simply enjoy the experience, take time for herself and feel more than just mum and wife. And of course, to get some lovely photos as a result 🙂

Meet Amberley.

Amberley’s story

I lost my mum when i was 23, nearly a year before I got married to my husband. Then I lost my father when I was 27 during the pregnancy of my first child. I have a lot to thank them both for as we were able to put a deposit on a house, but that isn’t enough compensation for the loss of grandparents to my two children and me my parents. But it’s made me stronger and more grateful for what I have.
We announced a second pregnancy just weeks before the Covid pandemic started, my husband only came to one scan appointment and wasn’t present at the birth due to an emergency c-section. He had to stay at home with our toddler as we couldn’t have anyone watch her.

What do you want from life, talk to me about your dreams?

To see my children be way more successful than their retail working parents. To get out of my retail job into something better.
To go to Japan again with my husband (we honeymooned in Tokyo).

What brings you joy?

Music and singing. I used to be in a local theatre group before i had kids, i did it for 10 years! My best friend Julie got me involved. Singing just relaxes me so much.

If you had the power to change 3 things in the world, what would they be?

Better funding in this country for the important things like the NHS. They literally save lives but deal with so much crap.
To eradicate covid, it’s taken so much from so many people.
For people to be who/what ever they wish to be with who/what ever they want, we’re getting there but there’s still room for improvement.

When was the last time you did something for the very first time?

Buying a house 2 years ago, a pretty big achievement that I never thought would happen.

What do you imagine yourself doing in 10 years time?

Would love a longer stay in Japan, we only saw Tokyo when we went. Tour the country and see some of the older more traditional areas would be amazing.

What are your top 5 values?

It’s hard to choose 5 but my top one would be Politeness, it doesn’t hurt anyone to say “thank you” but so few people do.

What motivates you to do your very best?

My family, I just want a happy and good childhood for my kids. Toddler mum life is hard but we are getting through it a day at a time.

What one thing have you not done that you really want to do? What are you waiting for?

I would love to do some burlesque classes but I don’t think there are any around and we have no childcare. Plus I’ll be returning to work soon after maternity leave.

Why were the photographs important to you now?

I have hardly any photos of me. I take hundreds of the kids but the last time I had a proper photo taken was at the wedding. I don’t see myself as beautiful or anywhere near so I think I need to see ME. I’m not just a mum, I’m a person behind the mess and ponytail.
